Save this illustrated checklist (SVG)Make two lists before you price a clearout
Separate electronics from appliances and from ordinary household clutter. A television, laptop, washing machine and refrigerator should not all be described as 'a few boxes of junk.' Give each item a name and quantity, and identify anything damaged, leaking, still connected or containing batteries or personal data.
Use that list when checking disposal routes. It can also reduce confusion in a rental inquiry: the main bin may be for an approved household clearout while certain devices need a separate arrangement. Do not wrap an unapproved device inside furniture or bury it beneath bags because the material is small compared with the rest of the load.
Check the regional electronics route for Clarington
Durham Region publishes an appointment-based electronics collection route for Clarington and an accepted-device list. Check the current instructions for your property and the actual equipment. Do not assume every electrical product is covered simply because it has a plug, and do not set items out until the collection requirements and arrangement are clear.
Where a device falls outside that route or the appointment does not suit your project, use the official disposal information to investigate another appropriate option. Avoid relying on an old social-media comment about a facility's hours, charges or acceptance. These details can change, and this guide does not quote a depot fee or guarantee a collection appointment.
Use the separate metal-goods guidance for appliances
Durham's metal-goods page includes a Clarington appointment route and item-specific preparation instructions for listed appliances. Read the requirements for the particular machine rather than applying one rule to every appliance. Eligibility for a regional route does not establish acceptance in a private rental bin.
If an appliance is still connected, arrange competent help for any required disconnection before treating it as ready to move. Do not cut gas lines, disturb refrigerant circuits or attempt electrical work because a collection date is approaching. A bin rental is not an appliance decommissioning service, and this planning article is not a technical disconnection manual.
- Name the appliance and explain its condition.
- Check the official item-specific collection instructions.
- Arrange any necessary disconnection separately.
- Confirm the handling and disposal route before moving it.
Keep personal information out of the disposal decision
A computer, phone or smart device may contain personal or business information. Decide how that information will be handled before handing over the equipment. Seek suitable data-erasure guidance or a qualified service when needed. Bin delivery, municipal collection and a recycling destination should not be assumed to include secure data destruction.
For a shop or office clearout, nominate the person authorised to release equipment and records. Keep devices in a controlled area until that decision is complete. This avoids a device being taken for disposal while another person believes it has been kept for its files, accounts or resale value.
Ask before adding uncertain equipment to the rental
Tell Bin and Gone the exact appliance or device, not just the category. Explain whether it is empty, disconnected and accessible, and identify any concerns without attempting to solve them yourself. The business needs to confirm acceptance individually; there is no published promise that every appliance or electronics item is accepted with mixed clutter.
Chemicals, hazardous materials and cinder blocks are excluded from the rental load. Unknown liquids and unsafe equipment require a different discussion, not a place at the bottom of the bin. If approval is unclear, keep the item separate. A deadline does not turn an uncertain material into an approved one.
Plan the main bin after the special routes are clear
Once devices and appliances have confirmed routes, reassess the remaining clearout. You may need a different bin profile or decide a rental is unnecessary for the smaller load. A hypothetical garage project could use regional appointments for qualifying equipment and a rental for the remaining approved clutter, but each arrangement must be checked independently.
The approved customer-loaded rental package is $563.87 CAD including HST for the 1 ton minimum, seven days, delivery, pickup and fuel. Each additional ton is $226 including HST. Call or text 289-356-0228 with your Orono address, separated item lists and preferred dates. These package terms do not include appliance disconnection, carrying labour or secure data destruction.
Questions before you book
Are electronics automatically accepted with household clutter?
No. Check the current regional electronics route and obtain individual confirmation before adding a device to a rental bin. Keep uncertain equipment out of the mixed load.
Does the rental include disconnecting a fridge or washer?
No. The published rental covers the bin arrangement, not appliance decommissioning. Arrange any necessary competent disconnection and confirm the disposal route separately.
Compare all five bin profiles, review the rental price, check material acceptance and plan delivery access.
