Decide what the cleared space needs to do. Parking a vehicle requires a different layout from creating a workbench or keeping seasonal equipment accessible. Measure that usable area first and mark it with removable tape. You can then judge each item against a practical goal rather than the vague instruction to tidy everything.
Work in small zones: the doorway, one wall, the workbench and the overhead storage. Do not empty the entire garage into the driveway at once. That approach makes it harder to separate possessions and can leave the delivery area blocked. Photograph each zone before sorting so you can build a clear list of the material that may need a bin.
- Keep: tools and equipment you still use.
- Rehome: usable possessions with a confirmed recipient.
- Review: unknown containers and special materials.
- Bin candidate: unwanted items after supplier approval.
Put old paint and garage chemicals on a separate list
Garages often combine ordinary clutter with automotive products, paint, batteries or unidentified liquids. Do not hide these inside bags of household material. Bin and Gone does not accept chemicals or hazardous materials. An unlabelled container is a question to resolve, not permission to dispose of it in the rental bin.
Clarington links residents to Durham waste information and the item-specific Know Before You Throw tool. Use those official routes when a material needs a different destination. Appliances, electronics and unusually heavy pieces also need a separate discussion with Bin and Gone. Having the list ready before delivery prevents the awkward situation of paying for a bin that cannot take the items driving the project.
Judge the remaining pile by shape as well as volume
A broken shelving unit, a long worktop and several bags of clutter occupy space differently. Record the longest item and any object that cannot be safely dismantled. The five illustrated bin profiles on this site have approximate calculated volumes from 5.8 to 16.3 cubic yards. They are comparison drawings, not certified usable capacity or a guarantee that a particular garage will fit.
For a hypothetical garage with old cabinets and loose household items, take one wide photograph of the whole disposal pile and a second of the largest cabinet. Ask which available profile suits that combination. Do not convert the garage floor area into a bin size or assume that a tall stack of loose items will pack neatly. Leave room in the plan for items discovered behind the first row of storage.
Make the loading route work for the people doing it
The rental package is customer-loaded. Think through the route from the shelves to the bin, including garage-door clearance, changes in level and the space needed to turn with a bulky item. Reserve separate places for retained possessions and discarded material. Keep the truck access clear, and discuss the intended position before arranging delivery.
Do not make the bin the only way to reach the garage or a parked vehicle. Confirm the loading limits with the supplier, keep material below the rim and do not continue if an item is unsafe to move. If your household cannot handle the loading, ask about a separate crew-loaded estimate rather than treating labour as part of the rental. The right service choice matters more than filling the largest bin.
Ask for a garage-specific confirmation, not just a price
The approved customer-loaded package is $563.87 CAD including 13% Ontario HST for the 1 ton minimum. It includes seven days, delivery, pickup and fuel. Each additional ton is $226 including HST. Confirm how the actual material, selected bin and requested dates will be handled before booking; do not infer a partial-ton rule from these figures.
Call or text 289-356-0228 with your Orono address, a short item list, the biggest object, a description of the driveway and your preferred dates. A useful opening is: I am clearing a garage, the main items are shelving and household storage, and I will be loading the bin myself. That gives the conversation a real starting point. The website can prepare a message draft, but a draft is not a reservation or a sent inquiry.
Questions before you book
Can I put old paint in a garage cleanout bin?
No. Chemicals and hazardous materials are excluded. Keep paint and unknown liquids separate and check the official disposal route for the exact item.
Does the garage rental price include people to load it?
No. The approved package is customer-loaded bin rental. Ask for a separate estimate if you need a crew to carry and load possessions.
Compare all five bin profiles, review the rental price, check material acceptance and plan delivery access.
